Narelle Oliver's Writing and Illustrating Workshop

Years 4 & 5

Student Work Samples.

A group of talented writers and artists from Years 4 and 5 were privileged to attend a workshop conducted by multi-award winning author/illustrator, Narelle Oliver. It was a busy and productive day and children and the outcome was a linoprint from each child, together with their story of a hunting animal.

Narelle began by reading one of her books.

She demonstrated her techniques of linoprint and showed her original works in various stages of completion.

She explained their task – to write and illustrate a story about an animal hunting for food. She provided an outline.

Narelle explained the importance of strong verbs and imagery.

Using their prior research on a hunting animal, children wrote their stories.

Narelle demonstrated how to draw their picture and transfer it to the white lino.

Children continued on writing and illustrating tasks.

Narelle helped students with their work.

As children finished their lino carving, Narelle worked with them to make a print.

Meantime, others continued with their writing.

Children proudly displayed their finish products.
